The film "Shahid" tells the true story of Shahid Azmi, a young lawyer who defies prejudice and injustice to defend those accused of terrorism. Rajkummar Rao plays Azmi, who is arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act for an alleged conspiracy to assassinate political leaders, despite his innocence. With the support of his brother Arif, Azmi completes a law degree and establishes his own independent practice, taking on cases for indigent Muslim youths wrongfully accused of terrorism. Ultimately, Shahid's tireless efforts lead to the acquittal of some of his clients, including Faheem Ansari in the high-profile 2008 Mumbai attacks case, just before he is assassinated by gunmen outside his office.
