Playing for Time

Vanessa Redgrave stars as Fania Fénelon, a French Jewish singer-pianist, in "Playing for Time," based on her experience as a female prisoner in the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. Fénelon joins the Women's Orchestra of Auschwitz, where she and other musicians are assigned to perform music for their captors, sparing them hard labor and prolonging their survival. Alongside fellow musicians Jane Alexander as Alma Rosé, Christine Baranski as Olga, and Robin Bartlett as Etalina, Fania forms close relationships with her bandmates while navigating the emotional toll of performing for the Nazis.
