In 2008, 13-year-old Chris Wang lives in a middle-class neighborhood of Fremont, California, with his Taiwanese immigrant mother Chungsing, her demanding grandmother Nǎi Nai, and his older sister Vivian. Chris learns the value of family from his friends Fahad and Soup while navigating adolescence.
