In a futuristic dystopia where people undergo mandatory cosmetic surgery at 16 to become "pretty," Tally embarks on a journey to find her missing friend Peris after he disappears before their procedure. With the help of Shay and David, a member of an underground group known as The Smoke, Tally discovers the truth about the society's enforced beauty standards and the true intentions behind the surgeries. As she becomes increasingly entangled in the rebellion, Tally must confront her own identity and decide where her loyalties truly lie.
