Dan Millman (Scott Mechlowicz), a talented gymnast at U.C. Berkeley, is mentored by gas station attendant Socrates (Nick Nolte). Dan encounters Socrates after suffering an injury, and the old man shares his philosophy of living entirely in the present moment. Through practical lessons, contemplation, and mystical experiences, Dan learns to appreciate every moment and improves his gymnastic prowess, while also dealing with emotional insecurity from a teammate named Tommy (Ashton Holmes) and trying to find Socrates after he vanishes before a competition.
