The Pay-Off

Gene Fenmore (Lowell Sherman), a suave gentleman and leader of the largest mob in the city, takes under his wing a young engaged couple, Nancy and Tommy, after their money is stolen by Rocky, his second-in-command. Gene gives them jobs on the legitimate side of his business, but Rocky's resentment grows, leading him to orchestrate a botched robbery that results in his death at the hands of the police, who focus their attention on the innocent couple.
