Bloody Fists

In 1972, Ng See-yuen directed a Kung Fu action extravaganza that would become an independent production milestone, encouraging other directors to follow suit. A small Chinese town is torn apart by a conflict between local farmers and Japanese soldiers of fortune, until a martial arts expert gifted in both Chinese and Japanese fighting disciplines passes through town and takes it upon himself to settle the feud. With memorable fight scenes choreographed by Yuen Woo-ping, this low-budget production showcases stylish visuals and adequate motivation for the usual conflict of interests between the Chinese and the Japanese. A lively example of an independent production, The Bloody Fists marked Chen Kuan Tai's contract with Shaw Brothers Studio before his character was recalled due to studio policy.
