In a ravaged 2073, a lone survivor in dystopian New San Francisco reflects on how unchecked climate collapse, authoritarian rule and tech-driven surveillance transformed the world, intercut with real archival footage that warns our present could lead to this bleak future. The film takes on big subjects like climate change, corporate fascism and the erosion of democracy through the rise of fascism, depicting a future where these forces are allowed to continue unchecked. Set in a dystopian future inspired by Chris Marker's 1962 featurette La Jetée, "2073" is a hybrid documentary that uses real archival footage and interviews to argue we're sleepwalking toward catastrophe.
