A car dealer, Bernard Barthélémy (Gérard Depardieu), is attracted to his plain new secretary, Colette Chevassu (Josiane Balasko), and they embark on an affair despite her own commitments. His beautiful wife, Florence (Carole Bouquet), finds this particular entanglement difficult to accept. The film features surreal, fantasy sequences and a non-linear timeline.
