Lady Macbeth

In 1865, Katherine joins the landed gentry by marrying Alexander Lester, whose domineering father Boris bought her to produce a legitimate heir. She lives on Boris's rural estate in Northumberland, England, where she enjoys walking around the estate with her maid Anna. When Alexander leaves for Amble, Katherine begins an affair with workman Sebastian, leading to her poisoning of Alexander's breakfast and eventual killing of her husband after he returns unexpectedly. Afterward, she moves Sebastian into the house and lives with him as mistress and master, eventually realizing she is pregnant and trying to reconnect with him despite his resentment.
