Howie Blitzer (Paul Dano) feels adrift in his New York suburb after his mother's death. He and friend Gary spend their time burglarizing neighbors' homes until they encounter Big John (Brian Cox), a macho former Marine who is also an unrepentant pedophile. After a chance meeting, Howie develops an unlikely friendship with Big John, but as he becomes more involved, he realizes the dangers of their relationship and grapples with his own sexuality.
