Didier Temple (Fabrice Luchini), a middle-aged Parisian writer and critic, is in disgrace after publishing a hostile review of a Bosnian film he hasn't seen. His life becomes complicated as he tries to navigate his relationships with his girlfriend Juliette (Sandrine Kiberlain) and her provocative encounter with Alain de Xantras. Didier's troubles escalate when he meets Aurélie Coquille (Valentina Cervi), a beautiful and intense young woman who becomes embroiled in his life, while Jérôme Sauveur (a character with no actor name mentioned) appears as a rival and complicates matters further.
