Charlie Wilson's War

In 1980, Congressman Charlie Wilson's life takes a dramatic turn when he conspires with CIA operative Gust Avrakotos to aid Afghan mujahideen rebels fighting the Soviets, setting off a chain of events that would ultimately become a major portion of the U.S. foreign policy known as the Reagan Doctrine. As Charlie navigates his own personal demons and party politics, he finds himself unexpectedly drawn into a high-stakes game of geopolitics, using his social connections to rally support for the mujahideen and secure funding from Saudi Arabia. With the help of Gust's team, including maverick paramilitary officer Michael Vickers, Charlie enlists the support of Israel and Egypt, and Pakistan, to distribute arms and supplies to the rebels, turning the Soviet occupation into a deadly quagmire.
