Viduthalai: Part 1

In 1987, Kumaresan, Soori, joins a police batch as a new driver who gets recruited for an operation to capture Perumal Vaathiyar, leader of a separatist group fighting against the authorities over atrocities committed by police interrogations in rural Tamil Nadu. Kumaresan learns about complicated alliances and conflicts between Makkal Padai and the government, where he also discovers that following orders is essential and cannot always help the locals. The police decide to turn the residents of the hill village against Perumal, but Kumaresan soon gets caught in ethical dilemmas as he falls in love with Tamilarasi "Pappa", whose grandmother was killed during torture by E-Company.
