Set in 14th century Garfagnana, Italy, "The Little Hours" is a black comedy film that uses modern dialogue – improvised by the actors based on writer-director Jeff Baena's detailed outline – to tell a story of nuns at a convent and their encounters with a handsome servant named Masseto. The film explores the sex lives of its characters, including nuns who find themselves drawn to each other and to Massetto, leading to a series of complex and often humorous interactions. With an ensemble cast featuring Alison Brie, Dave Franco, Aubrey Plaza, Kate Micucci, John C. Reilly, and Molly Shannon, "The Little Hours" is a lighthearted and whimsical take on the Middle Ages that challenges traditional notions of nunhood and desire.
