Brie Larson plays Jeannette Walls, who grows up in a dysfunctional family constantly on the run from the FBI. Her father Rex (Woody Harrelson), an ingenious drunkard, distracts her with magical stories to keep her mind off their dire state, while her mother Rose Mary (Naomi Watts) has no intention of raising a family. The family fends for each other as they mature in an unorthodox journey that is their life.
