Being Maria follows 19-year-old Maria Schneider, daughter of French actor Daniel Gélin, as she lands her dream role in Bernardo Bertolucci's 1972 erotic drama Last Tango in Paris alongside Marlon Brando (Matt Dillon). As Maria becomes a star overnight, she uncovers the fame and scandal that comes with it. The film dramatizes Schneider's experiences working on Last Tango in Paris and is based on her memoir My Cousin Maria Schneider by Vanessa Schneider.
