Äratus

On March 25, 1949, a full moon hung over Estonia as the Stalinist regime prepared to execute its darkest act of terror: deporting thousands of innocent Estonian families to Siberia in cattle cars that waited like steel beasts, ready to snuff out lives. The film "Äratus" (Awakening) chronicles this nightmarish event, a Soviet mass deportation that left over 90,000 people from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania labelled as "enemies of the people", forced into labour in inhospitable Siberian settlements.
