The Raggedy Rawney

During WWII, a young army recruit deserts after an artillery barrage kills his sergeant, leading to a traumatic experience that leaves him shell-shocked and mute. To escape the authorities, he disguises himself as a "rawney", a kind of female mystic in gypsy culture who is believed to possess supernatural abilities and can control animals. He joins a nomadic gypsy caravan, where he forms a romantic bond with one of the gypsy girls, but his presence ultimately leads to problems within the clan. The film explores themes of war's destruction and futility, the culture of the Romani people, and the bonds generated by love and family, culminating in a poignant finale that showcases the resilience of those affected by conflict.
