Andrew Detmer (Dane DeHaan) is bullied in school and abused by his father Richard, whose job loss leads to medical debt after his mother Karen's cancer diagnosis. After gaining telekinetic powers from a mysterious object, Andrew forms an unlikely bond with his cousin Matt Garetty (Alex Russell), and popular student Steve Montgomery (Michael B. Jordan). As they experiment with their new abilities, the trio initially uses them for fun, but Andrew's darker side soon takes over, leading to chaos and destruction.
