Darkest Hour

In May 1940, Winston Churchill must decide whether to negotiate with Adolf Hitler or fight on knowing that it could mean the end of the British Empire. Churchill is chosen as prime minister over Neville Chamberlain, and he faces opposition from colleagues who want Lord Halifax as his successor. As Germany invades Europe, Churchill grapples with the decision to continue fighting or seek peace, facing pressure from the king, his cabinet, and even his own family. Ultimately, Churchill delivers a powerful speech, famously declaring "we shall fight on the beaches," that rallies the British people to stand against Nazi forces.
