In this troubled tale, five friends test their friendship by playing a game in a haunted forest, where the lines between reality and darkness blur. Based on real-life tragedies, the film's unsettling premise is reminiscent of classic horror tropes like Slenderman, but its execution suffers from common pitfalls of the found footage genre, including plausibility issues that will likely frustrate even the most die-hard fans. With a talented cast struggling to elevate a troubled concept, "Nightlight" is a decent watch for those who enjoy the horror and suspense subgenres, but may not leave a lasting impression.
