In Sudanese drama "Goodbye Julia," a retired singer from northern Sudan, Mona, struggles to come to terms with her past after hiring the southern widow of a man she was involved in causing his death as her maid. Set against the backdrop of growing unrest in Khartoum, the film explores the complex relationship between northern and southern Sudanese communities just before the country's separation from South Sudan. Mona's guilt and attempts to move forward are threatened by the film's timely portrayal of social tensions and historical conflicts.
