A waitress from Chicago falls in love with a man from rural Minnesota and marries him, with the intent of living a better life - but life on the farm has its own challenges. Lem Tustine (Charles Farrell) is a young man sent by his overbearing father to sell their annual wheat crop, where he meets Kate (Mary Duncan), a waitress who is sick of the endless bustle of the city and dreams of living in the countryside. The stock market price of wheat starts to drop, and Lem hurriedly sells the crop for far less than the bottom line his father had given him.
