Dread

Three college students meet up and work together on a documentary about the nature of people’s fears. As things progress, it becomes apparent that one of them has an ulterior motive. The film introduces several characters and situations that did not exist in Clive Barker's original short story. Film major Stephen Grace (Jackson Rathbone) is recruited by his fellow student Quaid to conduct a "fear study" as a school project. Quaid reveals he wants to learn what others dread, hoping to defy his own fear after witnessing his parents' brutal murder as a child. The group's editor, Cheryl Fromm (Hanne Steen), shares her traumatic past of being molested by her father, while Stephen is drawn to Cheryl. Meanwhile, the group interviews Abby, whose dark birthmark sparks Quaid's fascination with primal fears. As the project progresses, Quaid becomes increasingly unhinged, using their knowledge to gruesomely torture and manipulate those around him.
