In This Corner of the World

In "In This Corner of the World," 18-year-old Suzu Hojo marries a young military clerk named Shusaku Hojo and joins his family in Kure, a large naval port city near Hiroshima, during Japan's involvement in World War II. As she adjusts to her new life, Suzu finds creative ways to overcome the hardships and deprivations brought by the war, including food shortages and air raids. The film follows Suzu's struggles to maintain hope and beauty in the face of tragedy as she loses loved ones and witnesses the devastating effects of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
