The Breadwinner

Parvana is an eleven-year-old girl living in Kabul under the Taliban's Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan who disguises herself as a boy to provide for her family after her father, Nurullah, is unjustly arrested and imprisoned. She tries to support her family by selling bread on the streets, but faces numerous challenges including poverty, religious intolerance, and harassment from the Taliban. With the help of a friend named Shauzia, who is also disguised as a boy, Parvana manages to save up enough money to bribe a prison guard and visit her father in prison, where she witnesses his unjust treatment and ultimately helps him escape.
