Eric Stoltz as Roy L. "Rocky" Dennis, a highly intelligent and humorous adolescent boy born with craniodiaphyseal dysplasia, thrives at school despite facing fear, pity, and teasing from others who don't know him, thanks to the love and support of his eccentric mother Florence "Rusty" Dennis (Cher), who fights for his enrollment in a mainstream junior high school. Rocky finds solace in helping others, including Diana Adams, a blind teenage girl he falls in love with at summer camp, but their relationship is put to the test when her parents forbid them from seeing each other. Ultimately, Rocky's life is cut short by his genetic disorder, leaving behind a legacy of inner beauty and resilience.
