In "Tyler Perry's Finding Joy," Joy (Shannon Thornton), a successful New York City fashion designer, embarks on a disastrous Christmas trip to Colorado after being asked by her boyfriend Colton (Tosin Morohunfola) to meet his parents. When Colton reveals he's engaged to be married, Joy flees in embarrassment, only to find herself stranded in the snow-covered wilderness with no phone signal. There, she meets Ridge Philips (Derek Alexander Dixon), a kind but rugged hunter who takes her in and nurses her back to health, leading to an unexpected romance.
