Quem Espera por Sapatos de Defunto Morre Descalço

The film "Quem Espera por Sapatos de Defunto Morre Descalço" (1971) is a Portuguese drama about two friends who, in despair, start begging from door-to-door and are given a bundle including, literally, a pair of deadman's shoes. The story follows Lívio, a young intellectual from a small-burguesia family who has just been abandoned by his girlfriend. He then embarks on a series of misadventures to find money, with the help of his friend Alberto Seixas Santos, whom he met at film school. Despite facing various setbacks and rejections, Lívio perseveres in his quest for success, ultimately leading him to receive funding from the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, which enables him to complete his film about Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, not before undergoing censorship from the State Novo regime.
