In the midst of Singapore's 1997 Asian financial crisis, a busy working-class family hires a Filipino woman to care for their young son, Jiale. Their domestic helper, Teresa, is an overseas migrant worker who brings her own set of challenges and emotions to the role of both maid and nanny. As Jiale navigates his troubled relationship with Terry, he must confront his mother's jealousy and feelings of emotional neglect, all while facing the harsh realities of poverty and financial uncertainty.
