Sentimental Value

The film follows sisters Nora (Renate Reinsve) and Agnes in their reunion with their estranged father Gustav (Stellan Skarsgård), a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star. After encountering American actress Rachel Kemp at the Deauville American Film Festival, Gustav offers the role of Karin to her, and production grows troubled as Gustav openly resents working with Netflix. As Agnes visits the National Archives of Norway to read her grandmother's statement about her torture, she realizes that while the film's plot is inspired by Karin, its emotional arc reflects Gustav's sincere regrets about his broken relationship with Nora.
