In 1933, Annie Bennett has been living on her own at the NYC Municipal Orphanage Girls Annex since she was an infant. After getting tired of waiting for her parents, Annie tries to escape but is caught by Aggie Hannigan, who punishes Annie with extra chores. When billionaire Oliver Warbucks decides to take in an orphan for Christmas, his secretary Grace Farrell chooses Annie, and he announces a $50,000 reward for anyone who can prove she's his daughter. Annie eventually finds her biological parents, David and Margaret Bennett, who died when she was still a baby, but she's adopted by Warbucks and lives happily with him and Sandy, the dog she befriended while on the run.
