Straight Into Darkness

Two American World War II soldiers, both about to be court martialed for cowardice near the end of the war, escape when their Military Police Jeep hits a land mine and flee over the countryside into a band of partisans consisting of children led by an adult couple. The partisans, initially suspicious of the Americans as German impostors, are forced to trust them when attacked by German soldiers with ulterior motives, leading to an uneasy alliance that blurs the lines between enemy and friend in the aftermath of war. With its blend of action, drama, horror, and war, "Straight into Darkness" (2004) is a haunting and intense indie film that defies easy categorization.
