When his best friend dies of a heart attack at a family barbecue, successful airline executive Ray Macklin descends into a slapstick farce of health-crazed anxiety and hypochondria, convinced that all his aches and pains are an indication of his imminent death. As his grief spirals out of control, Ray's life becomes a chaotic mess of paranoia, medical obsessions, and public embarrassments, leading to a shocking near-death experience in which his deceased friend escorts him to their allotted space in the afterlife. Ultimately, Ray comes to terms with his hypochondria as a manifestation of his grief, finding closure through a poignant reunion with Pat.
