Set against the backdrop of World War II, "Na svoji zemlji" (On Our Own Land) is a powerful drama that tells the story of ordinary villagers who find themselves caught in the midst of conflict when Italian and later German authorities occupy their Slovenian coastal town. Based on Ciril Kosmač's novella Grandpa Orel, this 1948 film marks a significant milestone in Slovene cinema as the first sound feature film. Shot on location in black-and-white, it was released to great public acclaim just months before its debut at the 1949 Cannes Film Festival.
