In this modern retelling of Henry James' The Bostonians, a battle between progress and preservation plays out on California's northern coast. Real estate mogul Gavin Ransom plans to cover the region with mini-mansions, sparking protests from environmentalist sister Olive and longtime resident Eileen Boatwright. As Olive joins forces with progressive lawyer Sybil and folk singer Zoe Tripp, who becomes an unlikely ally in their fight, personal relationships become complicated when Gavin falls for Zoe's charms. The California coast is about to change forever, but will it come at the cost of its natural beauty?
