Henrietta 'Henry' Robbins (Barbra Streisand) borrows $3,000 from a Mafia loan shark to finance her husband's investment in pork belly futures, but when the commodity's value doesn't increase as rapidly as she anticipated, she scrambles to find a way to pay back the money. Her contract is sold to various individuals, including Mrs. Cherry (Molly Picon), who operates a prostitution ring, and Henrietta must entertain clients without success.
