The 1961 film "Havoc in Heaven" (also known as Uproar in Heaven) tells the story of Sun Wukong, aka the Monkey King, who rebels against the Jade Emperor of heaven. After a brief prologue showing his birth out of a rock, Wukong decides to put on a display of martial prowess but accidentally breaks his royal sword. He follows an old monkey's suggestion to visit the Dragon King for a possible weapon and takes the magical Compliant Golden-Hoop Rod, a staff weighing eight tons that can change size. The Jade Emperor demands its return, but Wukong rebukes him, leading to his punishment with a minor post in Heaven. There, he is tricked by Venus into taking on more duties, including guarding the Heavenly Peach Orchard, where he eats the peaches of immortality meant for the Jade Emperor. After becoming homesick and stealing the banquet, Wukong soars home with his monkeys and opens the magical bag containing the stolen food. The film then depicts heavy fighting between the soldiers and Wukong's army as the Queen Mother of the West and Lao Tzu warn the Jade Emperor of the Monkey King's misdeeds.
