Zügürt Aga

In this poignant and humorous tale of rural Turkish life, a well-meaning but hapless landowner is thrown into chaos when his old father's sudden death on their nuptial night sets off a chain reaction of disasters. As drought-stricken peasants rise up against their exploitative landlord, the Agha finds himself forced to abandon his village and the only life he has ever known in order to navigate the unfamiliar streets of Istanbul. But with the city's siren song proving too much for him, the once self-assured Agha descends into ruin, losing everything and everyone he holds dear along the way.
