In 1999, Detroit's Garage Rock scene reached its peak as a wheelchair-bound father and his musician son joined forces with their bandmates for a raucous road trip to the South by Southwest festival, where they clashed with rival bands in a battle of sound and spirit. Writer/director Jeff Hupp pays tribute to the era with "Band on the Run," a nostalgic comedy that captures the essence of Hot Freaks, led by drummer Jesse Grant, as they chase their dreams of stardom. Alongside the band's energetic performances are personal struggles and relationships forged along the way.
