"Heroin(e)" is a documentary that shines a light on the devastating opioid epidemic in Huntington, West Virginia, where the overdose rate is 10 times the US average. The film follows three women – Huntington Fire Chief Jan Rader, Cabell County Judge Patricia Keller, and street missionary Necia Freeman – as they battle to help those struggling with addiction. Through first responders' calls, interviews with people who have been addicted and are in recovery, and a hopeful tone, the documentary explores the psychological toll on first responders, the use of naloxone to treat overdose victims, and the efforts of local nonprofits to bring hope to those affected by addiction.
