In a vast public works project in West Africa, tensions simmer beneath the surface as construction manager Horn and young engineer Cal share a cramped lodging behind the compound's fences. When Horn's recent bride Leonie arrives at the site, she unwittingly becomes entangled in the desperate quest of Alboury, a man driven by grief to uncover the truth about his brother's tragic death on the very same site where they now reside. Based on Bernard-Marie Koltès's play Black Battles with Dogs, Claire Denis's The Cry of the Guards is a gripping drama that explores themes of loss, redemption, and the human cost of ambition.
