"James Mason stars as John Sawyer, a brilliant defence lawyer turned cynical drunkard, who decides to defend his daughter's boyfriend, accused of murder, and gradually pulls himself together through careful observation and questioning. Geraldine Chaplin plays his estranged daughter Angela, while Bobby Darin provides a jaunty counterpoint as American criminal Barney Teale."
