Lauren Curran (Christina Ricci), a woman with bipolar disorder, and her husband Russel (Brendan Fletcher) move into a luxurious smart apartment in Portland, Oregon, seeking a safe home. Lauren becomes convinced that the apartment's owners are using their smart technology for sinister purposes, particularly after noticing strange noises and flashes on the TV. As she delves deeper into the mystery, Lauren teams up with hacker Vernon Sarsfield (John Cusack), who believes she's being targeted by mind control experiments. The film descends into a surreal and absurd world of paranoia, conspiracy theories, and subliminal messaging, culminating in a shocking twist that turns out to be a clever ruse.
