The Virgin Spring

In medieval Sweden, prosperous Christian Per Töre (Max von Sydow) sends his daughter Karin to take candles to the church, accompanied by servant Ingeri (Gunnel Lindblom), who is pregnant and secretly worships the Norse deity Odin. Along their way, Karin is brutally raped and murdered by a group of savage goat herders, leaving Ingeri traumatized and Töre seeking revenge against the killers, who unknowingly seek shelter at his home. Töre's actions lead to devastating consequences, including the murder of the young boy who had discovered the body and the subsequent emergence of a spring from the spot where Karin's head rested, symbolizing her innocence.
