The Entertainer

Laurence Olivier stars as Archie Rice, a struggling British vaudeville performer trying to stay in show business despite his personal and financial decline. He schemes to secure a new show for the winter season, but his efforts are hindered by his dysfunctional family, including his wife Phoebe (Brenda de Banzie), son Frank (Alan Bates), and daughter Jean (Joan Plowright). As Archie's career stalls, he becomes embroiled in an affair with Tina Lapford (Shirley Anne Field), a young woman from a wealthy background, but ultimately faces the devastating loss of his father Billy (Roger Livesey) just before their scheduled performance.
