The Baker family, while on vacation, finds themselves in competition with a rival family of eight children. Tom Baker (Steve Martin), feeling his family is breaking apart as the children grow up, persuades them to take one last family vacation at Lake Winnetka in Wisconsin. There, they face off against their old rival Jimmy Murtaugh (Eugene Levy) and his eight kids, who flaunt their wealth and success, leading Tom to train the kids for a Labor Day Family Cup competition. In the end, the families work together to help Nora Baker-McNulty (Piper Perabo) get to the hospital during her labor, and the family enjoys the rest of their vacation.
