In the early to mid 1990s, four South African photographers - Greg Marinovich, Kevin Carter, Ken Oosterbroek and João Silva - risked their lives to chronicle the violence and upheaval leading up to the 1994 election of Nelson Mandela as president, capturing the chaos of clashes between government-backed forces and those in support of Mandela's African National Congress. Their work was perilous, potentially fatally so, as they thrust themselves into the midst of war-torn South Africa, driven by a sense of purpose and friendship that would define their lives forever.
