The Horse Soldiers

A Union Cavalry outfit, led by Lieutenant Colonel John Marlowe (John Wayne), is sent behind Confederate lines to destroy a rail supply center. Along with them is sent Major 'Hank' Kendall (William Holden), an army surgeon whose instant antipathy towards Marlowe causes tension between them. A southern belle, Miss Hannah Hunter (Constance Towers), who must be taken along to assure her silence, gradually comes to respect Marlowe and eventually falls in love with him, as they navigate several battles, including the capture of the vital supply depot at Newton Station, and a surprise dawn attack on Confederate troops.
